BUS COMPANY GEARS UP FOR GROWTH WITH 5M INVESTMENT IN FLEET AND NEW OPERATING CENTRE
Northern Ireland’s largest private bus company, Chambers, is gearing up for an increase in demand for its luxury transport services with a £5 million investment in state-of-the-art new coaches and a modern operating centre situated on the outskirts of Moneymore in Co. Londonderry. The investment will also provide for increased employment opportunities for 25 qualified drivers and brings the total fleet to 100+. The company has seen a steady growth in its private and public sector business in recent years and is predicting a strong demand for its services ahead of the 2008 tourist season.

Commenting on the investment, Chambers Chief Executive, Michael Lorimer, said: “The new vehicles really are the ultimate in coach comfort and, with 3-point seat belts, perform to the highest safety standards. Their Euro 4* engines have some of the lowest levels of carbon emissions within the coach industry making them one of the most environmentally friendly modes of transport. Our Masternaut tracking system will measure the carbon footprint of each vehicle so we can track further reduction of emissions. So our passengers can travel in safety and style whilst doing their bit for the environment. "

The new buses consist of eleven high specification Scania 49-seater luxury tourers finished to executive standards, five Esker Touring 39 seaters and three Scania i4s. Chambers will be the first to introduce the new Scania i4 model into Northern Ireland – these are 59-seater high performance vehicles catering for commuter and leisure passengers. The new fleet will be deployed right across Chambers operations and in particular will be used to meet the anticipated growth in touring both in Ireland and overseas.

“We have built a strong reputation for reliability and service with key tour operators. With visitor interest and access into and out of Northern Ireland at an all-time high, we plan to build on this side of our business both at home and abroad in 2008”, continued Michael Lorimer.

Founded in 1967, Chambers was the subject of an acquisition by private equity firm, Enterprise Equity a year ago and since then has established a new management board under the Chairmanship of former Translink CEO, Ted Hesketh CBE. This investment furthers the company’s position as one of the leading private transport providers on the island of Ireland.
